The Catalunya Traverse 2024

So, where are we riding?

Day 1: Depart central Barcelona for Allela

Embark on our journey from the lively heart of Barcelona, navigating through bustling streets adorned with historic architecture and vibrant neighborhoods. As we bid farewell to the urban landscape, the scenery gradually transforms to present a landscape filled with verdant hills. On the first day, we will welcome riders to our first hotel, kick things off with a welcome dinner and relax poolside.

Day 2: Alella - Montseny - Tossa de Mar

We'll journey toward the national park of Montseny. During the spring and autumn seasons, the landscape transforms into a breath-taking tapestry of greens or brown-hued leaves, making it one of the country's most picturesque destinations. As the afternoon unfolds, we'll transition toward the coast, arriving at the beautiful Costa Brava and the enchanting town of Tossa de Mar, where we'll spend the night.

Day 3: Tossa de Mar - Cap de Creus – Besalú

We'll ride through twisty and enjoyable roads near the sea, continuing our journey north along the Costa Brava. The incredible coastal road from Tossa to Sant Feliu de Guixols stands out as one of the most renowned routes in the Costa Brava. Next, we will proceed to Cap de Creus to view the lighthouse and the residence where Salvador Dalí lived in Port Lligat. Our lunch will be served at the restaurant of the Cap de Creus lighthouse.

Day 4: Ripollès - La Molina - Cardona

As we journey westward, the Pyrenees gradually begin to ascend. Our initial destination is the town of Beget, nestled within the heart of a profound valley. Our route will then lead us through two off-road sections, a splendid interlude amidst the Pyrenees' majestic terrain, adorned with breath-taking vistas. we proceed southward, traversing towards the town of Cardona. Here, our rest for the night awaits within the confines of its castle, a historic edifice that has been artfully transformed into a functioning hotel.

Day 5: Cardona - Penedès - Barcelona

In the morning, we will ride south to the famous Montserrat monastery, where we will make a stop for a visit at unique UNESCO World Heritage Site. Montserrat is a special place, characterized by its distinctive formations and the monastery nestled amidst the finger-like cliffs. Afterward, we will journey through the "Catalan Tuscany," the enchanting Penedès wine region where we will enjoy lunch at a vineyard. We will then begin our journey back into Barcelona.

Day 6: Departure from Barcelona

After breakfast we'll say our goodbyes and riders will depart for home.

About the Catalunya Traverse

Our Iberian Scramble guided motorcycle tours all start and finish in Barcelona, Spain. The Catalunya Traverse covers up to 1,000 km over six days on on mostly asphalt/tarmac. There are two optional sections where riders can test their off-road skills by piloting their bike through two beginner-friendly off-road sections over a mountain pass. Both sections are ‘big bike’ friendly, with the second being slightly rockier and steeper. Most the ride is twisty tarmac with significant elevantion change. This ride has been designed for those that really like to lean into the corners!

We kick off our rides at about 9:30am each morning and plan to return to our evening accommodation around 6:00pm each day with plenty of stops for coffee, lunch and off-the-bike experiences. You will experience a mix of landscapes and roads across the trip from twisty coastlines like the Cap de Creus road to the steep and windy sections of Montseny National Park. The roads conditions are typically very good and you should expect a mix of dual lane and single track roads. We will do our best to keep the ride off the motorways. On Day 3 you will get a taste of the Trails Traverse when we climb and cross a pass along the French and Spanish border. The gravel trail is well maintained and easy to ride. If taking your bike on gravel isn’t your thing, no problem. We alway have an alternative option. This ride does require an intermediate level of riding – the days are full and require the skill level to take on a mix of riding conditions.

Bikerbnb Adventure tours take into account differing riding abilities – so if you have any concerns about the length of the trip, terrain or riding in a group – just drop a member of our team a message at info@bikerbnb.com and we’ll get you sorted.

Bikerbnb prides itself on offering world-class accommodation that is not only incredibly relaxing, but provides the peace of mind that your motorcycle will remain where you parked it. All of our accommodation options across our tours feature secure parking, drying facilities in the event of rain and convenient locations next to some of the best roads in the world.

On the Catalunya Traverse we will start our ride at Hotel Arrey Alella, which is located around 20 minutes from the centre of Barcelona. From there, we will then travel north west toward the national park of Montseny.

We offer two types of accommodation packages: shared or single. At checkout, please specify if you prefer the shared or single supplement and if you are traveling with another rider or partner so we can plan accordingly.

On The Catalunya Traverse, all accommodations are four star hotels. Expect warm and comfortable rooms and private washrooms. Dinner and evening drinks will typically take place in the hotel.

Those familiar with Bikerbnb Adventures know that what we do off the bike is just as important as the riding. And moreover, we really pride ourselves in the quality of the food and drink served on all of adventure tours. It goes without saying that you won’t go hungry while travelling with us.

A certified technician and trained first aid responders are present on all Bikerbnb Adventures experiences.  If there is an incident involving you or your motorcycle, we will do as much as we can to ensure that you can continue to enjoy your holiday.

In Barcelona we are work with Viva Motorent. They offer a range of motorcycles suitable for the Iberian Scramble series. Viva is conveniently located and very close to your hotel on the final day (10 min walk).  We recommend hiring a comfortable, medium-weight scrambler or adventure bike for the Catalunya Traverse.

We strive to balance the best interests of our riders and the financial wellbeing of our small business. The following Cancellation Policies establishes clear timeframes to help ensure we are equipped to run a high-quality event and meet obligations to our partners, vendors and accommodation providers, while balancing any unexpected circumstances that may arise. We appreciate that sometimes circumstances outside of our control can necessitate last minute changes. If you do need to cancel your spot on the Catalunya Traverse, we would like to first offer you a credit of your booking fee (less the deposit and any ticket increases) toward a future reservation with us. If this is not possible, the following table outlines our official Cancellation Policy for the 2024 riding season. The Catalunya Traverse features Bikerbnb’s unique motorcycle-friendly accommodation. During the ride we will stay in hand-picked accommodation that is secure and especially suited for motorcycle travelers. On the Catalunya Traverse, we will stay in four star hotels. Each hotel will have a bar and restaurant, with some  featuring a pool and spa.

We try to price our trips fairly to accommodate different budgets. The Catalunya Traverse takes a lot of consideration, planning, coordination and time! The knowledge and experience of the organisers is second to none and every detail is carefully collaborated. From unique locations, specialised kit, great food, support vehicle, insurance, content producers, chefs, and experienced staff, we offer an incredibly competitive product compared to other tour operators.

The route is designed to explore the best that Catalunya has to offer. It has been designed for intermediate riders who are comfortable riding twisty roads and have some off-road prowess.

While some sections will be more challenging than others, the ultimate goal is to go at your own pace and enjoy the beautiful scenes along the way. You may feel you want to push out of the comfort zone but we encourage you to ride to a level you feel safe and comfortable with.

We aim to ride up to 200-240 kilometers per day. On the smaller twisty roads, we will allocate more time to enjoy the scenery!  We anticipate each leg of the journey should take approximately 5-6 hours of riding, with breaks in between for lunch and coffee. Evening meals are aimed to be served around 8:00pm.

Please do and shout from the roof tops! We like to post live updates from our social media pages throughout the experience. We will also create an online sharing folder so you can share your snaps with the rest of the group.

Unfortunately no. We can only offer accommodation, food and support to those who have paid in full for the tickets in advance.

Weather conditions that pose safety issues to our riders will be taken into account but the bottom line is this: please come fully prepared and hope for the best! Unlike Scotland, weather in Spain is a little more predictable, but please always come prepared.

Everyone participating will be at different levels of riding ability. If you wish to go ahead or take your time, the route will be shared with you on a group chat. We will also send you the route in advance for you to study. The support vehicle is only a phone call away so don’t panic. We also use the WhatsApp live sharing feature so that everyone can see where they are on the route.

Our support vehicle will be there to help you  along the way. We are equipped with tools and knowledge and will try to assist with a roadside repair or pop the bike in the back. You can then be transported to the final destination of the day or to a local garage.

You are responsible for paying for your own fuel and any additional refreshments along the way. You will also need to pay for fuel and alcohol. The rest is sorted by your Bikerbnb Adventures hosts.

You’ll still need to purchase individual tickets to cover both of your accommodation and food costs. The tickets are sold per person, not per bike.

We have limited spaces on each scramble so we can only sell tickets for set dates. If you need to change a date, we will need to know in advance to see if we can accommodate you on a preferred date, but we cannot guarantee a spot.
