If peace and tranquillity are what you seek, and you wish to avoid the hum drum of the inevitable tourists traps of Puglia and Calabria and you wish to fully immerse yourself in the true slow pace of the real Italian lifestyle with its rich artistic and gastronomic heritage, varied folklore and stunning mountain and seascapes, then Casa Tranquillo in sunny Southern Italy could be exactly what you are looking for…
Nearby Puglia often grabs the headlines, but Basilicata, just a little way to the South, on the instep of the boot of Italy and accessed via Bari, Brindisi and Lamezia airports, boasts a far more authentic Italian experience with Matera as the EU City of Culture in 2019 and many picturesque medieval hilltop towns just a stone’s throw away. The Basilicata region has its own very specific cuisine, simple, wholesome, rustic and hearty, but always locally sourced, and totally delicious. Amongst a vast array of varied cuisine, from vegetarian, to fish, to meat to pasta, the local speciality of roast meats on a bed of roast potatoes in white wine and rosemary is truly a thing of wonder!
Nestling in amongst beautiful rolling hills and countryside outside the small hilltop town of Montalbano Jonico in secluded Basilicata, Casa Tranquillo is a typical rustic farmhouse which has been sympathetically restored with every modern convenience, whilst still maintaining the wonderful character and charm of the original building, which for many years was used to dry tobacco leaves.
The farm entrance takes you through vines and orange groves and gives you a brief taste of what awaits you at Casa Tranquillo. The farmhouse stands amidst the beautiful natural environment on five acres of private land consisting of olive and citrus groves, cacti, flowering bushes, rosemary and vines – the typical vegetation of this lovely area.
The house’s rustic charm remains completely intact, and the original and simple decorative style enhances the warmth of this lovely old property. The owners, Daniel and Susan, always ensure that you have an amazing stay, and their recommendations for beaches, mountains, National Parks, local charming medieval hilltop towns and restaurants will keep you busy once you have relaxed completely and eventually venture out of the property to explore.
All rooms throughout the farmhouse have been decorated as they would have been originally with cool feeling tiled floors, interspersed with local original farming implements and a really eclectic assortment of interesting bits-and-pieces from the local area.
As can be seen from the reviews of Casa Tranquillo over the years, the property appeals to those discerning visitors who seek the aforementioned peace and quiet. There is a comfortable lounge, TV and a wide range of DVDs, and on the bookcase, a choice of many novels which visitors are welcome to view, along with heating and air-conditioning, a small but fully fitted kitchen with washing machine, a contemporary en-suite bathroom, and a secluded vine covered sun terrace adjoining the private plunge pool, an area perfect for breakfast in the morning or a romantic candlelit dinner in the evening with a glass of something chilled...
The grounds are open and overlooked by the secluded sun terrace. You may choose to wander around the area and take in all the wonderful plants and fragrances, or use one of the farmhouse’s bikes to get around. Hit the nearby secluded beaches, have a lazy lunch in the quaint white marble towns or soak up the sun in the private pool whilst enjoying the wonderful idyllic views across the valley surrounding the house, over the tops of the silvery olive trees.
Casa Tranquillo is very conscious of the environment and recycles all household waste, utilises pure water from its own water source, utilises high efficiency electrical appliances, and is pesticide free.
With the sea and unspoilt beaches approximately ten minutes’ drive away, and many of the famous and beautiful hilltop and seaside towns within the county of Basilicata which are within easy striking distance, Casa Tranquillo offers comfortable and relaxing accommodation that we know you will savour and cherish.
The house has its own private plunge pool, one bedroom, one en-suite bathroom, a small fully equipped kitchen, separate lounge and a vine covered sun terrace. Also included are air conditioning and heating, sun beds, sun umbrella, small barbeque, bicycles, private free parking and the house is ten minutes’ drive from the nearest hilltop town of Montalbano Jonico with local/traditional shops, restaurants, and supermarkets.
There is also a weekly market locally and all of the picturesque hilltop towns also feature patron saint festivals throughout the summer with spectacular light shows, firework displays, live music and gastronomic delights galore!
